What is 24-Hour pH Monitoring?

This test measures acid levels in your oesophagus over 24 hours to detect acid reflux. A thin tube is gently inserted through the nose into the oesophagus and connected to a small external recorder worn on your belt.

What to Expect

The tube remains in place for 24 hours while you go about your normal routine. You’ll record symptoms and meals in a diary to correlate with the test data. The tube is removed after the monitoring period, and results are analysed to guide your treatment.

Preparation & Aftercare

You may be asked to stop certain medications in advance. Avoid eating or drinking for several hours before placement. After the tube is removed, normal activities can resume immediately.

Risks & Complications

The test is low risk. Temporary nose or throat irritation may occur during or after the procedure.
