Detailed imaging of the small intestine without sedation or scopes.
Video capsule endoscopy involves swallowing a small, pill-sized camera that captures thousands of images as it travels through your digestive tract. It allows clear visualisation of the small bowel, which is difficult to access with traditional endoscopy.
Capsule endoscopy may be used to investigate:
You’ll swallow the capsule at the clinic, and it will transmit images to a wearable recorder for around 8 hours. The capsule is disposable and exits naturally in your stool. You can continue most daily activities during the test.
Fasting is required before the procedure. After ingesting the capsule, avoid strenuous activity or eating until advised. Once the recording is complete, the recorder is returned for analysis.
Capsule endoscopy is very safe. In rare cases, the capsule may get stuck in a narrowed area of the bowel.
No, the capsule is painless and moves naturally through your digestive system.
Yes, most normal activities are fine during the test, unless advised otherwise.
