Accurate diagnosis of upper digestive tract conditions with minimal discomfort.

What is Gastroscopy?

Gastroscopy, also known as an upper endoscopy, is a procedure that allows our specialists to examine the lining of your oesophagus, stomach, and the first part of your small intestine using a thin, flexible tube called an endoscope.

When is it Recommended?

Gastroscopy may be recommended for symptoms such as:

What to Expect

The procedure usually takes 15–30 minutes and is performed under light sedation to ensure comfort. A flexible endoscope is passed through the mouth to allow a detailed view of the upper digestive tract. Most patients can return home the same day.

Preparation & Aftercare

Before the procedure, patients are required to fast for several hours. Some medications may need to be paused. After the procedure, a mild sore throat is common and you will need someone to accompany you home due to sedation.

Risks & Complications

Gastroscopy is generally safe. Rare complications include bleeding, infection, or perforation.
